Hodan Mohamed, Assistant head at Gainsborough Primary School, shares with us the impact Reading Plus has had on KS2 and how valuable the reporting and data insight was for pupils’ reading development.
Why did you choose Reading Plus?
Initially, we were looking for a programme to support children during the first lockdown. Reading Plus offered a structured programme that children understood.
Easy and user-friendly set-up process
Implementing it was quite straightforward. Teachers completed the initial assessment with children and modelled logging in and navigating the dashboard.
Exceptional level of support
We have been provided outstanding support from the initial stage of implementing the programme to answering queries that we have had. The support team in general has been easily accessible which is great.
Valuable assessments and data for progression
As a teacher, the long-term data provided is insightful. Upper Key Stage 2 teachers use the reporting data as part of our gap analysis. This is alongside other assessments in reading lessons. The data offered teachers a great insight into the different reading focuses and specific data around progress.
Texts covering various subjects
Children are engaged and have responded well to the programme.
We have a noticeable uptake in Year 5/ 6 which I think has been due to the programme being ideal for that cohort. Children have commented on the range of texts and have also shared interesting facts that they discovered.
Will you continue using Reading Plus?
We have been using Reading plus for 2 years and we will continue to use it for Upper Key Stage 2 as it has a clear impact.
