Grace Murphy, age 11, from Austhorpe Primary School in Leeds, has been recognised for her progress in reading by assistant headteacher, John Ware.
Since using Reading Plus, Grace has excelled in her reading ability which was not only recognised by her school, but also by the team here at Reading Solutions UK.
Grace inspired us to create a new initiative, Star of the Month, which celebrates pupils’ reading achievements in school.
Upon launching our new awards, we received hundreds of nominations from schools across the country, and Grace was chosen for her engagement, progress and dedication to using the programme both in school and at home during lockdown. She received a £25 voucher and a trophy for her achievements.
Assistant Headteacher John Ware, tells us:
“Grace took to the Reading Plus scheme with great enthusiasm. The format is perfect for her to maintain her natural curiosity about the whole world around her.
“Reading Plus has given the class more confidence when analysing a piece of text and has also allowed some children who were a little ‘stuck’ with books on our reading scheme, a new and exciting way to make rapid progress in their reading age. All children have made increases in their reading development.”
Grace tells us:
“Since I have started Reading Plus my reading level has been getting better. My speed is now faster and understanding what I am reading is much easier for me.
“At my house I have read most of the books I own so having Reading Plus gives me more choice on what to read. It has helped extend my vocabulary and its library of books is great.
“I’m always encouraged to do my best and I have now read over 100,000 words!”
Reading Development Consultant, Jonny Bennett, from Reading Solutions UK said:
“Grace has done amazingly well in her progress with reading and inspired us to create our new ‘Star of the Month’ initiative.
