this academic year!
Within his role, Damarai has the opportunity to complete a series of exciting reading activities throughout the year, including:
- Reviewing new (and unseen!) texts yet to be added to Reading Plus.
- Sharing his experience of Reading Plus in a blog titled ‘My Reading Plus Journey’.
- Expanding his reading further and reviewing books outside of Reading Plus.
- Collaborating with us on interviews with children’s/YA authors.
As he progresses through his Champion duties, all his tasks will be added here – so look forward to more amazing activities being published soon!

I'm happy to be a Reading Plus Champion. It is a lot of responsibility and fun. When I start a book or text, I cannot stop reading it because it gets too interesting and I don’t want to put it down.

TASK ONE: ‘Meet Damarai’
How do you feel about becoming a Reading Plus Champion?
I’m happy because you get a Reading Plus Champion kit, and I get to look at the text on Reading Plus that has not been released. It is a lot of responsibility and fun.
What books do you plan to buy with the book voucher from your Champion Prize Kit?
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books or books related to it.
What do you enjoy most about reading?
When I start a book or text, I cannot stop reading it because it gets too interesting and I don’t want to put it down.
Can you tell us about your favourite author/book?
Cressida Cowell is an author of fictional history books like How to Train Your Dragon. Her books are my favourites because they take me back in time.
Out of all the books you have ever read, who is your favourite character?
Hiccup because he cares for dragons and he is kind.
What is your favourite hobby?
Swimming because you can have fun in the swimming pool and I learn to swim in my spare time.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
A power that makes me talk to animals underwater, breathe and swim fast underwater, because I like swimming.
What do you want to be when you are older?
An actor, swimmer, footballer and author because they are my dreams and goals.
- Actor – I go to drama club.
- Swimmer – I like swimming.
- Footballer – Football looks like fun.
Imagine you just won a million pounds, what would you do with it?
Go on holiday because a holiday would be lovely and fun, and give some money to charity.
If you found a genie in a bottle, what would be your three wishes?
I would wish that everyone would live how long this Earth lives. I would have all the Tom Holland Spider-Man things and all the Ghostbuster things, and my baby sister would not have to go to A and E again.
