Erith pupil, Nathaniel, celebrates being awarded Reading Plus Champion status!
Nathaniel, a Year 6 pupil from St Fidelis Catholic Primary School, celebrates Reading Plus Champion status after being recognised nationally for his exceptional reading progress and attitude.
We developed the role of Reading Plus Champion to celebrate the reading efforts of pupils who use our online reading development programme – Reading Plus.
Teachers nationwide nominated hundreds of pupils for the role, and Nathaniel was one of only 11 pupils chosen. Annabel Phelan, the English Leader who nominated Nathaniel, said:
“Nathaniel is a fantastic role model when it comes to using Reading Plus. Since starting in September, he has read the most words in his class at 67,722. He has improved his reading speed by an average of 35 words per minute and has gained an average of 1.7 levels.”
As a Reading Plus Champion, Nathaniel will complete reading tasks such as interviewing a children’s author and writing blogs and book reviews for Reading Solutions UK’s website.
Annabel continued: “He encourages others in his class to use Reading Plus and has spoken to external visitors about how the programme makes him a better reader.”
Nathaniel received a Reading Plus Champion kit with prizes, including a book voucher, certificate, and badge to celebrate his achievement. The kit also includes various stationery materials to help him complete his tasks and a new, age-appropriate book.
Our Reading Development Consultant, Lee Carrick, said: “Congratulations to Nathaniel on your new role – keep up the great work and continue inspiring your classmates. We can’t wait to see what you achieve as a Reading Plus Champion.
