Gabriella's Reading Plus text review

Meet Gabriella

We’re delighted to introduce one of our Reading Plus Champions, Year 6 pupil Gabriella from Plains Farm Academy.

Gabriella’s teacher, Andy Hunter, nominated her for the role and shared with us:

“Gabriella is a huge lover of Reading Plus. Since starting in September, she is already working on Level H – three years above her age range. Gabriella has a real flair and love of reading. She takes any opportunity to read. Currently she is busy supporting our staff in developing the library into a space where she can start her own Book Club.”

The role of Champions

At Reading Solutions UK, we are devoted to accelerating reading progress while instilling a love for reading in our students. One way in which we do this is by appointing Reading Plus Champions who have the opportunity to complete additional exciting tasks, including:

  • Reviewing new (and unseen!) texts to be added to Reading Plus.
  • Sharing their experience of Reading Plus in a blog titled ‘My Reading Plus Journey’.
  • Collaborating with us on interviews with children’s authors.

We’re delighted to publish Gabriella’s review of Reading Plus text The Ghost on the Moor – which she rated 9/10!

It is a very interesting piece of text.

What is the text about?

Lorelai is a 13-year-old girl who doesn’t want to spend her summer with her aunt and cousin. Later, she arrives at her aunt’s place and wants to go explore the moors.

Who is your favourite character and why?

My favourite character was Lorelai because I love her adventurous spirit, attitude and personality.

What was your favourite part of the text?

My favourite part of the text was when Lorelai convinces her cousin to go exploring with her.

Did you learn any new facts?

I learned what a moor was.

Improve students' cultural capital

Reading Solutions UK is dedicated to providing students with a diverse content library depicting a wide range of experiences, celebrating the diversity of people and cultures, and meeting their emotional and academic needs and interests.

The quality of rich and engaging texts on Reading Plus is continually assessed to provide a holistic reading experience for students. Over 1,200 informational, fiction and non-fiction texts are available for students to self-select.

“Our pupils have a very low cultural capital, and when Ofsted came to visit, they liked Reading Plus because the texts broadened pupils’ understanding.”

Hannah James, English and KS2 Lead, New Road Primary
