Meet Luna
We’re delighted to introduce one of our Reading Plus Champions, Luna, a Year 6 pupil from St Paul’s Catholic Primary School.
Luna’s teacher, Victoria Wilson, nominated her for the role and shared with us:
“Luna consistently exhibits a dedication to enhancing her literacy skills. Her genuine interest in exploring diverse literary genres underscores her commitment to promoting reading as a source of enrichment and enjoyment.”
The role of Champions
At Reading Solutions UK, we are devoted to accelerating reading progress while instilling a love for reading in our students. One way in which we do this is by appointing Reading Plus Champions who have the opportunity to complete additional exciting tasks, including:
- Reviewing new (and unseen!) texts to be added to Reading Plus.
- Sharing their experience of Reading Plus in a blog titled ‘My Reading Plus Journey’.
- Collaborating with us on interviews with children’s authors.
We’re delighted to publish Luna’s Reading Plus Journey!
Hey, fellow book lovers! Luna here, and I’m super excited to share my Reading Plus journey with you.
I’ve been hooked on Reading Plus since before I became a Reading Plus Champion, and let me tell you, I do really enjoy it! Before this, I already loved diving into stories, but Reading Plus took my reading game to a whole new level.
One of the things I adore about Reading Plus is the variety of genres it offers. Fantasy texts whisk me away to magical worlds, while realistic fiction gives me a taste of everyday adventures. It’s like having a whole library at my fingertips!
The programme introduced me to genres I might not have explored otherwise, broadening my literary horizons. And can we talk about “The Girl in the Lake”? It’s my absolute fave Reading Plus text – the suspense, the mystery – I couldn’t put it down!
Reading Plus has been like a vocabulary treasure trove for me. Although I can’t think of specific words off the top of my head (I promise, they’re in there!), I know I’ve picked up loads of new ones. It’s like unlocking a secret code to even more exciting stories.
I genuinely feel like my reading skills have improved since I started using Reading Plus. I make it a point to dive into it not only at school but also at home. It’s like having a personal reading adventure whenever I want!
To anyone thinking about giving Reading Plus a go, my advice is simple – just go for it! Try your best, explore different genres, and watch your reading skills soar. Trust me, it’s a journey you won’t want to miss!
An adaptive programme
Every Reading Plus journey will be different as our adaptive programme places all students on a personalised learning path to success.
Students begin with an adaptive assessment, which provides a baseline and a data-driven starting point. These results place each student at the right level in the programme before creating a learning pathway to accelerate their strengths and improve their weaknesses.
Over 1,300 high-quality and age-appropriate informational, fiction and non-fiction texts are then available for students to self-select from to develop comprehension and vocabulary knowledge.
These engaging texts, instant feedback and gamification features keep students motivated.
As students progress through their adaptive, personalised path:
- Their fluency, stamina, comprehension and vocabulary improve – as does motivation.
- Cross-curricular subject knowledge improves due to the variety of text types and topics.
- They become curious and confident readers who are more likely to read for pleasure.
