Congratulations to Aanyaan, age 12, from King Edwards VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys, our latest Star of the Month winner!
Head of English, Gaurav Dubay, nominated Aanyaan for his commitment, hard work and effort. He said:
“Aayaan is a highly able SEND student. His commitment to reading and, in particular, Reading Plus, is unparalleled. Originally he found the system difficult and alien; he persevered and made excellent progress as a result. Rather than succumbing to barriers, he – and he alone – overcame them!”
To recognise his reading efforts, Aayaan was awarded Star of the Month by Reading Solutions UK and received a trophy and a £25 book voucher.
Speaking about the impact Reading Plus has had, Gaurav continued:
“The Reading Plus programme works for us on several levels. We have a minority of students who are reluctant readers; our internal data is very clear – our highest achievers are our most voracious readers. Reading Plus ensures all our students are readers and are making progress against the Reading for Learning measures.
“Most importantly, it provides us, class teachers, information that allows us to intervene quickly and at a classroom level. Wider interventions are, therefore, minimal as issues are addressed in class.”
