Why did you want to get involved in the International Reading Conference 2023?

“Reading has the power to transform lives. I want to inspire others to build a reading culture in the school so that it has a transformative impact in the lives of the pupils we teach.” – Gaurav Dubay.

“Sharing and listening are cornerstones of all good personal and professional learning. Having seen sessions from the previous event, I knew I wanted to be involved in sharing my knowledge and expertise and learning from all the other fantastic speakers too.” – Mark Anderson.

“I think it is imperative for teachers not to forget that they are artists as well as scientists.” – Tim Rasinski.

” For me, reading in school is about getting students to love reading and educating teaching staff on its value and importance. Reading underpins all areas of the curriculum, and we aim for students to share the knowledge they’ve learned from reading in all of their subjects – this also opens up a dialogue between students and their teachers. An event such as The International Reading Conference brings people who are passionate enough to speak about reading and who want to learn and share ideas and experiences.” – Rebekah Ricketts.

What will attendees be able to take away from your session?

“Attendees will explore the implementation process, the successes, and the lessons learnt in implementing a school reading culture.” – Gaurav Dubay.

“Technology has the propensity to be transformational in reducing workload, enhancing learning and engaging learners. In my session, I will be sharing easy-to-use tools, approaches, and shortcuts that you can take away and implement in your classroom right away that can do just that!” – Mark Anderson.

“Teachers will come away with science-based strategies for teaching reading that are also engaging and artful!” – Tim Rasinski.

Why do you think reading is so essential for children’s education?

“Reading is a fundamental life skill. As educators, no matter which subject we teach, we can’t ignore that building children’s love for reading and their reading attainment is crucial for their academic and social success.” – Rebekah Ricketts.

“It is vital for academic success, building empathy and developing agency.” – Gaurav Dubay.

“Reading is essential for children’s education as it improves memory and focus, helps you develop empathy, and improves your communication skills. Who wouldn’t want that for everybody?” – Mark Anderson.

“Reading is essential and critical for successful learning in all disciplines and content areas.” – Tim Rasinski.

We are thrilled to have several outstanding, experienced and inspiring speakers at this year’s conference. They will share their knowledge and thoughts on various topics, so make sure you register to attend the conference!
