Murton pupils, Charlotte and Jack, celebrate being awarded Reading Plus Champion status!

Murton pupils, Charlotte and Jack, celebrate being awarded Reading Plus Champion status!

Jack Nesbitt and Charlotte Readymarcher, Year 4 and Year 6 pupils from Ribbon Academy, celebrate Reading Plus Champion status after being recognised nationally for their exceptional reading progress and attitude.

We developed the role of Reading Plus Champion to celebrate the reading efforts of pupils who use our online reading development programme – Reading Plus.

Teachers nationwide nominated hundreds of pupils for the role, and Charlotte and Jack were two of only 11 pupils chosen. Kim Flower, the E-Reading Lead who nominated them, said:

“Jack is our rising star through Reading Plus. His dedication and effort don’t go unnoticed while he modestly works his way through the programme.

Charlotte’s commitment to reading is beautiful to see – particularly since she reads more for pleasure too. She is an absolute role model to Ribbon Academy.  We are so proud of her!”

As Reading Plus Champions, Charlotte and Jack will complete reading tasks such as interviewing a children’s author and writing blogs and book reviews for our website.

Both pupils are excited for their role, Jack said: “Reading Plus helps me get better at reading and you can learn things from the books. Now, I can help others like it has helped me.”

Charlotte shared the same sentiment, adding: “I love Reading Plus. I love seeing how well I have done, but I also love helping others to get better too!”

Charlotte and Jack received a Reading Plus Champion kit each with prizes, including a book voucher, certificate, and badge to celebrate their achievement. The kit also includes various stationery materials to help them complete their tasks and a new, age-appropriate book.

Charlotte is revisiting her role after being awarded the Reading Plus Champion title last year. Kim is confident the pair will make fantastic Champions, sharing: “Charlotte is an amazing Reading Plus Champion. She continues to use the programme to best support herself and progress through the stages.

“We love Jack’s determination as he strives to better himself – showing all his Ribbon Virtues.”

Our Reading Development Consultant, Louise Walker, said: “Congratulations to Charlotte and Jack on your roles – keep up the great work and continue inspiring your classmates. We can’t wait to see what you achieve as a Reading Plus Champion.

“It is fantastic to see the positive impact Reading Plus has had on the reading culture at Ribbon Academy.”
