To win the prizes, students must submit a poem named ‘What Christmas means to me’.

The poem can be acrostic, rhyming, or non-rhyming and be no longer than 12 lines.

If poems are entered by a parent, carer, or guardian, they must have confirmation from the student's school that they would be willing to receive the prize if they win the competition.

The competition is open to Reading Solutions UK customers and Reading Plus users only.

Lesson ideas for your class

As the title of the poem is ‘What Christmas means to me’, to inspire children and generate ideas, here are some suggested questions to start a class discussion:

  • What is Christmas?
  • How do we celebrate it?
  • How has it changed over the years?
  • How is it celebrated around the world?
  • What does it mean to you?
  • What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?
