Meet Reem
We’re delighted to introduce one of our Reading Plus Champions, Year 6 pupil Reem from Winton Primary School.
Reem’s teacher, Megan Buston, nominated her for the role and shared with us:
“Reem is a conscientious and dedicated learner in all subjects, and prides herself on her ability to support others. She is committed to learning new things and tries to be the best she can be in everything. She is a role model for other pupils in her learning.”
The role of Champions
At Reading Solutions UK, we are devoted to accelerating reading progress while instilling a love for reading in our students. One way in which we do this is by appointing Reading Plus Champions who have the opportunity to complete additional exciting tasks, including:
- Reviewing new (and unseen!) texts to be added to Reading Plus.
- Sharing their experience of Reading Plus in a blog titled ‘My Reading Plus Journey’.
- Collaborating with us on interviews with children’s authors.
We’re delighted to publish Reem’s review of Reading Plus text The Leprechaun Trap – which she rated 10/10!
“It’s an engaging text and fun to read for students like me!”
What is the text about?
This text is about a thief who was proud of his work for stealing and trapping leprechauns – even though his plan didn’t work.
Who is your favourite character?
My favourite character is the leprechaun as he outsmarts the thief.
What was your favourite part of the text?
The first paragraph was my favourite part because the thief (Michael O’Connor) is describing himself as proud and that stands out.
Did you learn any new facts?
I learned that fiction texts can be more enjoyable to read than non-fiction.
Did you learn any new words?
- Bewilderment – the feeling of being perplexed and confused.
What would you say to a friend looking to read this text?
I would suggest it as I think they would enjoy the structure and vocabulary.
The text was a fun, enjoyable text to read and I would recommend it for a Year 5 or 6 student.
