Celebrating our schools’ success in the 2022/23 academic year.

As we kick off the new academic year, we want to reflect on all that our students, teachers, and Reading Solutions UK have achieved together in 2022/23.

We have loved watching and celebrating our Reading Plus schools as they succeed in their reading development, and we are thrilled that we can continue supporting the reading journeys of over 1,300 schools in the UK.

This year, our Customer Support Team have also trained and supported approximately 1,000 teachers to implement Reading Plus within their classrooms effectively.

  • “The support from the Customer Support Team is brilliant. Whenever I have emailed with a query, the response has always been quick, thorough, and helpful.”
English Leader Annabel Phelan from St Fidelis Catholic Primary School
  • “We received outstanding support from the Reading Plus Team. The Customer Support Team is easily accessible and responds quickly and efficiently.”
Transition, SEN and Literacy Teacher Alison Jacobson from Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy

All of our Reading Plus schools have made outstanding reading gains. Together, they have achieved:

Months of comprehension gains

Our commitment to you

Over 250 new schools have joined us in recent months to embark on their Reading Plus journey. We cannot wait to see new students improve their fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, as well as gain a deeper love of reading using our programme.

At RSUK, our mission is to improve children’s life chances through education. We are confident that we can provide the best reading development programme to schools; however, it is important that our services don’t finish here. Many of our team have a background in education and understand the invaluable role of teachers. Therefore, we also offer CPD to further support teachers in their classrooms.

This year, we held our second annual International Reading Conference for educators across the globe to hear from experts as they discussed best practices and strategies to encourage reading for pleasure, reading for learning and reading for life. Over 800 participants signed up to hear online sessions from leaders in education, literacy experts, and EdTech specialists, including Teresa Cremin, DfE reading for pleasure expert, and Tim Rasinski, author and Professor of Reading Education.

Working so closely with schools, we see first-hand all the hard work, dedication, and enjoyment that goes into excelling in Reading Plus. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their Reading Plus experiences in our case studies, student blogs, and teacher blogs. It is wonderful to hear how our programme impacts students and staff. To celebrate the accomplishments of our users, as well as to provide extra motivation for those who may be reluctant readers, we set up initiatives throughout the year!

Christmas poetry competition

Our first competition of the year, the Reading Plus Christmas Poetry Competition, was a success. We received hundreds of festive poems from children nationwide. Congratulations to our winners, Jack from Meadow Park School and Maddie from Woodhouse Trafford School. Thank you to everyone who submitted their poems – they were a pleasure to read, and we cannot wait to read more this December. Thank you also to our competition partners, the Digital Poverty Alliance, for all the critical work you do to end digital poverty.

Star of the Month

Congratulations to all our Star of the Month winners! Thank you to all of the teachers who went out of their way to nominate hundreds of worthy students and a well done to all those nominated – you have made it incredibly difficult to choose our winners month after month.

Reading Plus Awards

More recently, we held our Reading Plus Awards to showcase the individual schools, teachers, and students who have excelled with Reading Plus in the 2022-23 academic year. Congratulations to all our winners and runners-up!

Moving into 2023/24

We anticipate the re-launch of our competitions (and some exciting new initiatives!) in the 2023/24 academic year; however, we couldn’t wait until September.

This summer, we offered students the opportunity to be involved in our Reading Plus Summer Challenge, which encouraged children to read during the summer holidays to prevent the summer reading dip. This was to ensure students were ready to return to school, aid the successful transition between year groups, and help students retain knowledge and skills learned in the previous school year.

We look forward to witnessing all the exceptional progress and successes our Reading Plus schools will achieve this upcoming academic year. If your school is yet to introduce our programme, try our free four-week pilot to experience how Reading Plus can transform learning within your classrooms.
