What is Reading Plus?
Reading Plus is an adaptive online reading development programme designed to enhance fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills in KS2 – KS4.
When starting the programme, students complete the InSight Assessment, which comprehensively measures their reading strengths and skills gaps. Based on these results, Reading Plus will adapt its content to maximise every student’s progress.
All students, including students eligible for pupil premium, EAL and SEND students, benefit significantly from the programme’s personalised scaffolding, adaptive technology, and varied informative and cultural texts.

“Reading Plus ticks so many boxes that other programmes have tried to do.
I have been looking for an appropriate assessment tool for such a long time and this is the best thing I have found – I love it. Progress is very clear to see from the concise reporting data collected. You can also see any weaker areas of comprehension and target specific interventions at a whole-class, small group or individual level.
The programme’s patented Guided Window tool, which guides the reader’s eyes left-to-right across text at a bespoke speed utilising a moving box, has enabled children to become more accurate in their reading and increased their confidence and comprehension. There has also been a positive impact on fluency and reading stamina.
Less able readers are able to practise key skimming and scanning skills through visual skills assignments within the programme, and the vocabulary lessons have enabled them to broaden their understanding of words.”

The impact of Reading Plus
When you implement Reading Plus in your school, it will:
- Improve students’ reading fluency, stamina and comprehension.
- Allow students to self-select high-interest fiction, non-fiction and informational texts at ability level.
- Help close the gap.
- Expose students to unfamiliar texts from topics outside their cultural context, with more challenging vocabulary.
- Build cross-curricular subject knowledge.
- Support students to read more than 185 words per minute – the rate needed to comfortably complete the Reading SATs paper.
- Help Key Stage 3 students transition and access the Key Stage 4 curriculum.
