Louise joined Reading Solutions UK as our Licence Support Officer and has since joined our Reading Development Consultants team. The experience she gained in helping schools as our Licence Support Officer made her extremely passionate about Reading Plus, its benefits, and the difference it can make in children’s lives. Her new role at RSUK allows her to use her knowledge and experience in the education sector and our programme to help teachers successfully implement Reading Plus in their schools.

What did you do before you became a Licence Support Officer at Reading Solutions UK?

I was self-employed in network marketing for almost five years before starting my new career in the education sector. Before that my background was in the energy industry. A world away from what I do now!

What attracted you to the education sector?

I’ve always had a keen interest in working in education and child development. When the opportunity at Reading Solutions became available, I knew it was a chance to fulfil something I had always wanted to do.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Tell us more about your role at Reading Solutions UK?

I currently work in the renewals team, which involves working with schools that have been benefiting from Reading Plus and need to review their progress and licence provision. The experience I have gained in helping schools has resulted in a promotion to become a Reading Development Consultant, from September. I am very excited to be changing my role, as I have seen first-hand the reading results a consultant can help schools and pupils achieve. I’m extremely passionate about Reading Plus, the benefits it has and the difference it can make.

What do you enjoy most about working at Reading Solutions UK?

Job satisfaction. Knowing that I am part of something that makes a difference to a child’s education and future. Reading development is so important, being a confident reader is more than being able to pick a book up and read it, it affects so many aspects of life – both in school and at home. I also work with an amazing group of people, which makes the day even more enjoyable!

When you are not working, what do you enjoy doing?

Lots of family time with my husband and children. Tynemouth is one of our favourite places – whether that be beach days (depending on the fine British weather) or a walk along the coast with fish and chips. Football takes up a lot of our spare time! Thankfully, we all love it. Eating out and socialising with friends is also a favourite pastime.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t sweat the small stuff!!

What piece of tech can you not live without and why?

Probably the standard answer. My phone! I like to be organised, set reminders, and have a lot of ‘lists’.

If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?

To freeze time – imagine having a pause button you could press to stop and evaluate the decision.
